From sacred architecture to Amsterdam’s waterfront
Help shape a temple that visibly floats on Amsterdam’s Binnen-IJ — surrounded by open water, ferries, canal houses and the city’s unmistakable waterfront.

The Amsterdam vision
The Jagannath Universe concept brings monumental Vedic architecture into a distinctly Dutch setting: open sky, moving water, public quays and a welcoming bridge from city to temple.
The envisioned temple is more than an object on the skyline. It is conceived as a living spiritual home for kirtan, wisdom, darshan, prasadam, festivals, youth programmes and service to the community.

Turquoise domes, white façades and gold details reflecting across the IJ.
A spiritual destination designed to invite Amsterdam in.

Architecture as inspiration
For Jagannath Universe, we draw on a powerful composition: a monumental ribbed blue dome, smaller flanking domes, white colonnades, gold crowns and rhythmic chhatris.
For Amsterdam, that language becomes lighter, more open and unmistakably maritime — placed on a stable floating structure, connected to the quay and reflected in the Binnen-IJ.

The mission behind the vision
A place where devotion becomes practical service through kīrtana, spiritual education, Jagannātha worship, prasādam, sacred literature, care and community.
Founder-Ācārya of ISKCON
The project is inspired by Śrīla Prabhupāda’s mission to share spiritual knowledge, develop Kṛṣṇa consciousness, spread congregational chanting, publish sacred literature and create welcoming holy places for society at large. On Amsterdam’s waters, those purposes become worship, kīrtana, study, prasādam and compassionate service.

Continuing a life of service
Inspired by his lifelong service to Śrīla Prabhupāda, the project brings together congregational outreach, book distribution, waterborne preaching, prasādam distribution, devotee care and Jagannātha worship. The floating Amsterdam vision carries that practical spirit of taking bhakti to people.
“I have also made my mission Srila Prabhupada’s mission. You can please me if you make this your mission.”
